Sandy Neck Drill

SANDY NECK DRILL

There is a "cottage" colony at the eastern end of Sandy Neck in Barnstable Village. It can be accessed via land, but takes a very long time on sandy trails. The colony is also accessible via boat from the Barnstable Harbor.

On Monday June 30, 2025, the Barnstable Fire Department held an annual drill simularing a response to a structure fire in the Colony. Several boats and crews from various agencies participated. The objective being to establish a water supply via local fireboats and portable pumps, while advancing hose lines to protect.

Crews from Barnstable, Sandwich, COMM, Hyannis, and others joined in for several hours.

The Barnstable boat quickly over took the slower Sandwich vessel.

Upon arrival, crews put a handline into operation using available sea water.

Back on the main land, at Mill Way Beach, Barnstable Engine 202, Ambulance 204, and Car 212
observed the operations and stoodby for any real emergencies.

The Barnstable Sheriff's Department Communications and Command Post unit S-39
also participated in the drill. Dispatchers from the County operated as "Fire Alarm"
and documented various aspects of the incident.

S-39 has two radio positions and a command table.
The elevated radio tower is quipped with a video camera allowing live observation.
