Otis Crash Truck Departs

Otis Foam 404
The future of the fire department at Otis ANGB is still very uncertain, but this past week
reality hit home when the newest crash truck (2006 Oshkosh Striker) Foam 404
was decommissioned and prepared to be sent to an undisclosed new assignment.
The mission of the base has changed and the aircraft activity has been drastically
reduced, thereby reducing the required levels of fire dept personnel and apparatus.
Other apparatus changes are expected in the months to come. potentially seeing
other apparatus removed or replaced by older ARFF units. March 24, 2008.

Otis is placing this 20' Kristi Trailer in service as a Technical Rescue Trailer.
It replaced a smaller trailer that will be utilized for rehab.

It replaced a 20' trailer that will be utilized for additional support.

It is utilized by the station officers as a utility vehicle.
It will be replaced when the new 412 Ford Pickup comes in.

2006 American LaFrance 2000/750 Pumper.

Otis has a new American LaFrance Eagle 2000gpm / 750 gal 4 door pumper
on order. It will have a rescue style body and will be red and white.
It is expected to be delivered in Oct 2006.
The new engine will become the 3rd Otis Engine serving with 406 & 407.

Otis New Crash Truck

Otis has taken delivery of a 2006 Oshkosh Striker P-19 ARFF Crash Truck.
1950gpm/1500gals/210 foam/500 lbs dry chem
It replaced the 1975 Oshkosh P-4 Foam 404.
It is painted white over red.
The new crash truck went in service in Sept 2006

Otis Fire Department's newest ARFF unit was this 1994 Teledyne / E-One P-23 that had a
2000 gpm pump, 3300 gallon water tank, 500 gal AFFF tank, and 500 lb PKP capacity.

Foam Trailer 416

Foam Trailer 416
Otis recently upgraded its portable foam capacity with this 1000 gallon foam
trailer. It is equipped with a small transfer pump and carried a compliment of
hose. The trailer replaced a trailer that carried 5 gallon cans of foam.

Otis has also assigned numbers to their Technical Rescue and Haz Mat Trailers.
The Technical Rescue Trailer is now "417" and the Haz Mat is "418".

FIRE STATION NEWS

NEW OTIS ANGB FIRE STATION - NOV 21, 2006
The new 40,000 sq ft, $13 million fire headquarters is expected to open in the spring of 2007. The facility will replace the two present stations. It will also house the Barnstable County Sheriff's Dept dispatch center. Photos of progress.

NEW FIRE STATION TAKES SHAPE
Construction is well under way on the the Otis Fire Station. Located across the runway to the west of the present crash station, the large new fire station will replace both Otis stations. All apparatus will be running out of the combination ARFF / Structural station when it opens. The station will not be completed until approximately Fall 2006

Architect rendering of the new Otis Crash Fire Rescue Station presently under construction. The new facility being built on the west side of the airport will combine the two present Otis stations into one facility. The new station will house both ARFF and structural apparatus. Construction is expected to be complete by Fall 2006.

OTIS FIRE DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS

Otis Fire Department operates from two stations. One on the flightline and one in the housing area. Otis is in the planning stages of designing a new combined facility to replace the 1940's vintage stations. Update: The contract has apparently been made and a new $13 million station will be built on the west side of the airfield in 2004/2005. Dec 2003
